The Body of Christ Poem

 1 Corinthians 12.12-27

This poem is already in drama form, (see dramas) but has been translated into poetry, so that younger children can tackle it and understand it better.

props:

arms: a pair of large coloured gloves (must reach up and flex muscles)

feet: a large pair of boots or wellies (must run around in a quick circle  ’’)

eyes: plastic eyes on springs (must nod head and shake head  ’’)

ears: plastic ones (must cup hands around plastic ears)

brain: a dunce's hat or heavy black specs (must lift pipe to mouth and nod head)

heart: a large red cut-out for the narrator to hold up at the right time

Also needed : a doll which is held by someone at the back of the assembly/church

Each child must indicate which body part they represent by stepping forward and reacting as above, whenever they hear their body part mentioned.

Narrator holds the heart and the whistle.

THE BODY OF CHRIST

I'm the arms, I am strong and able

I'm the eye I can see far and wide

I'm the brain, I put plans in action

I'm the feet, I can run, I can hide

I'm the ear it is my job to listen******

And I hear someone calling to me!

This eye sees a child in the water,

S/he's in trouble, s/he's drowning you see!

I, the brain call the body to action (Narrator blows whistle)

The feet they run with great speed

The body dives into the water (body wearing head ‘swims’ to the doll at the back of the hall, if head is not used, then a child other than the body parts runs…)

A very fine rescue indeed!

'BODY' BRINGS BACK THE DOLL

'Did you see how fast I was running?'

Said the feet to the others with glee.

'Without my great speed she'd be lost now

I'm the GREATEST of all you can see!'

"NO YOU'RE NOT," SAID BRAIN,"I DID THE THINKING!"

"NO MY EYES SAW THE CHILD IN HER FEAR"

"BUT MY ARMS DID THE LIFTING!" "BUT MY FEET DID THE SHIFTING"

"YOU'D BE DEAF IF MY EARS COULDN'T HEAR"

"Aye ! Aye!" Said the brain, I see trouble afoot

Let's not pull each other apart"

As the body we're all so important,

What keeps us together is heart.

Said feet "I feel a right heel now

I started the argument there,

Don't deserve to be part of this body

Kick me out-for that would be fair!"

Said ear, "But you're still a part of us

Without you we'd feel oh so blue?

That girl would have drowned, without being found

You see we all had a job to do!"

MORAL for school use

It's important to all work together

Show love and respect every day

But this poem is too long and we all need our break

So let's all go outside and play.

MORAL for church use

It’s important to all work together

Show love and respect every day.

Jesus set an example to follow…

And we don’t want to scare folks away!
