On Saturday, December 14, Bob Bodnar led an Earth Rocks Adventure for Cub Scout Pack 249 Webelos in Silver Springs Maryland that included rock and mineral identification, a crystal-growing experiment and each scout got to select and open a geode. Each scout was also given a small collection of minerals to take home with them. This activity allowed each scout to meet requirements to receive the geology badge.
The VTPaleo group recently had two students present their work at the international Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology meeting in Atlanta. PhD candidate Erika Goldsmith gave a talk on part of her dissertation work on fossil tooth spacing and undergraduate Simba Srivastava gave a poster on his research on a new dinosaur species from New Mexico.Â
Associate Professor Sarah Stamps provided scientific guidance for a traveling exhibit about Pioneering Mother of the Global Positioning System and "hidden figure" Dr. Gladys West.
