Spring Banquet & Alumni Dinner!

On Saturday evening the department hosted its annual Spring Banquet and Alumni Dinner. The banquet celebrated our graduating students and student award winners, while welcoming many of our alumni back to Blacksburg. The banquet was well attended, with about 120 folks enjoying the presentation of our honorary speaker, Dean of Science Kevin Pitts.

Geoscience presentations at the ICTAS poster session

Two Department of Geosciences grad students -- Cece Wood and Denise Burgett -- gave poster presentations at the annual ICTAS 2023 Doctoral Scholar Research Symposium.

Friday seminar: Dr. James Dottin (Carnegie Institution of Washington)

Last week's Friday seminar was given by Dr. James Dottin of the Carnegie Institution on "Isotopic constraints on the lunar sulfur cycle." Dr. Dottin was hosted by Asst. Prof. Megan Duncan.

Geoscience Advisory Board visits Blacksburg

The the new Geosciences Advisory Board met last weekend. Six members of the board came to Blacksburg (Josh Jones, Henry Pettengill, Rhonda Welch, Danielle Carpenter, David Spears, and Bill Rouse), while two more members (Emma Tulsky and Kat Barrett) participated over Zoom.  In addition, member Rhonda Welch met with grad students from Geosciences, Mining Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering to talk about jobs in the energy transition. Geosciences grad student Lars Koehn organized the meeting.
