Ken Eriksson's Career Celebration

Friends, family, and colleagues of Emeritus Professor Ken Eriksson gathered in the University Club to celebrate his successful and impactful 40-year-career in the Department of Geosciences. Thank you for all you have done for Virginia Tech and the department, Ken!

Maddy Schreiber at the United Nations

Professor Maddy Schreiber participated in the UN World Conference 2023 was held.  About 8000 people worldwide attended the meeting. Maddy says: "In addition to plenary sessions that focused on high level water issues, I attended sessions on women's inclusion in water, the role of the private sector, and tangible solutions to the circular water economy.  It was an amazing experience!" In addition to the photo of Maddy in the General Assembly of the UN, the other picture is of Maddy, Sunil Sinha (CEE), Yugasha Bakshi (UAP), and Durelle Scott (BSE) (all from VT) in front oa banner of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Shuyang Sun sailing on the R/V Marcus Langseth

PhD student Shuyang Sun is currently aboard the R/V Marcus Langseth, the U.S. seismic research ship, having sailed through the Panama Canal to the Galapagos Islands. The cruise will deploy ocean-bottom seismometers for a study of plume-ridge interaction there..


Alum Ed Setnicky (B.S., 2012) Visits

Alumnus Ed Setnicky (B.S., 2012) of Haley and Aldrich returned to campus and met with students to help develop pathways to employment.

Friday seminar: Dr. Billy Armstrong (Appalachian State University)

Last week's Friday seminar was given by Dr. Billy Armstrong of Appalachian State University on "Glacier-contact lakes in a changing climate: processes, rates of change, and impacts of an evolving cryospheric interface." Dr. Morlighem was hosted by Assoc. Prof. Mike Willis.
