Message from the pac

We'd like to extend a huge WELCOME to our new and returning students and families. Returning families will notice a big difference from previous years at Sunnyside. Schoolwide, community-building events and activities, like barbeques, hot lunches, Fun Fairs, school dances, and movie nights, are on hold, but we are determined to make this a great year for all our students.

Our first order of business is to elect our 2020-21 PAC executives. We were unable to hold an AGM in June, so our first PAC meeting will include an AGM and an election. It will be held online, via Zoom, on October 1st at 6:30 PM. The Zoom Meeting ID and passcode will soon be sent to all parents through the Sunnyside Appazur App.

We would like to encourage all parents to attend meetings, get involved, and consider joining the PAC executive team. Most, if not all our meetings this year will be held online, which will hopefully allow more parents to attend.

This is a great year to join, and learn what goes on behind the scenes, without having to throw any big events. We usually meet twice a month, once as an executive team, and a second time at a public meeting for all parents. If you would like to join the executive team, please contact the PAC at info@sunnysidepac.ca and submit a nomination form. You may nominate yourself or another Sunnyside parent or guardian for any position. Here is the link to the Nomination Form and Information regarding PAC executive roles.

Mrs. Sodhi wrote a book!

Our wonderful Sunnyside librarian, Mrs. Sodhi, wrote and published a funny, entertaining children's book, called "Ms. Chievus in the Classroom". In addition, she is generously donating the entire net profits from the sale of her book to her two favourite charities, Canuck Place Children's Hospice (Vancouver, BC), and Mamta Foundation, which supports orphanages for abandoned / orphaned girls In India.

The Kiss and Go, located in the upper parking lot by the front entrance, is an area to safely and quickly drop your child off before school. Your child must be able to unbuckle and exit the car independently, from the passenger's side, and head to class. Keep in mind that this is not an area to park and wait.

Our children love hot lunch days, and we all love the small break from making a lunch. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, and protocols put in place to help keep us all safe, we are unable to offer Hot Lunch to our families at this time.

Douglas and Edgewood Elementary Schools

If you are moving to either school, and would be interested in being part of a transition committee, please email us at info@sunnysidepac.ca. For updates on the progress of construction at these new schools, please sign up for their respective school newsletters or follow them on Instagram and Twitter at:
