Message from the pac Chairperson

Now, more than ever, our kids need our support. Consider joining Sunnyside PAC and make a difference in your child’s time at school. Did you know that students whose parents are involved in their school are more likely to have higher grades and do better socially? It's true, Google it! It’s not just fundraising and events (although that’s the fun stuff); the primary purpose of a Parent Advisory Council originates in advocating for students and parents. Our team is very small this year, please consider reaching out (jennifer@sunnysidepac.ca) to see what you can do to get involved.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.

On Wednesday, February 24, wear pink as a symbol of anti-bullying at Sunnyside. Pink Shirt Day was inspired by an act of kindness in Nova Scotia. After a grade 9 boy was bullied for wearing a pink shirt, David Shepherd and Travis Price decided to purchase and distribute pink T-shirts to all the boys in their school. They all wore pink, raised spirits, and started a global movement.

February is Black History Month. Nicole Curtis, the Surrey School district's inclusive practices teacher, outlined several ways that schools and families can honour Black History Month. To learn more about Black history in Canada and British Columbia, please visit Surrey Schools- Black History Month.

In pre-pandemic years, Grade 7 parents would form a committee, and host a farewell dinner and dance for their graduating children. This year, the Farewell Committee will need to find a different way to celebrate this milestone. If you would like to be part of the committee, please contact gina@sunnysidepac.ca.

The new mascot and school logo have been revealed! Visit the Grandview Heights Secondary website, Instagram, or Twitter for up-to-date info. The Grandview Heights Transition Committee, composed of future GH parents, meets once a month with Principal Darren Bedard. He welcomes any and all questions at grandview@surreyschools.ca. Questions or comments for discussion can also be sent to gina@sunnysidepac.ca. Go Grizzlies!
