Buddy benches

What it is:

The buddy bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. It can be used:

• If you are new to the school.

• If you want to make new friends.

• If your friends aren't at school that day.

• If you want to play something different than what your friend is playing.

By sitting on the bench, you let other students know that you are looking for a friend to play with.

"The bench is more than a bench; it's a tool. It's a tool to educate the children that they have to be inclusive."

Installation date:

• Bench 1: Is located beside the playground on 28th Ave. It was hand-painted by Sunnyside teacher Mrs. MacKay.

• Bench 2: Will be installed near the lower playground, once the school expansion is complete.
