PAC newsletter
Message from the pac Chairperson
We hope you all had a safe & special time with your family over our break and the holiday weekend. We don't have a lot to update you on or to ask for at a time when we usually do! But please give consideration to the following few items in our newsletter.
As always, we would love to have you join our team and bring your energy & ideas. Sunnyside PAC has worked hard for years to plan unforgettable events, advocate for parents' concerns & raise funds for our kids. Next year we will have no one to run things. Don't let the hard work & funds go to waste! Please consider stepping up now to see what the roles entail and if it's something you could help with. A new team of execs needs to be formed in June. More hands make light work!
Jennifer
We live in a busy neighbourhood, but we can make a difference. We are asking for parents to help out from 8:15 to 8:30am, by wearing a safety vest, and walking on the sidewalks beside the school. A commitment of 1 morning per week would be wonderful. Please contact us at jennifer@sunnysidepac, to help keep our students safe.
The intersections of greatest concern are 159 St / Wills Brook Way and 159 St / 28 Ave. We are also requesting a third parent to walk along 28th Ave, as a visual deterrent to speeding drivers. Please understand that we are not asking for anyone to confront drivers.
Continue to practice and talk to your children about traffic safety.
* To make a formal request to the city of Surrey, about a flashing pedestrian light at 159 St / 28 Ave, visit www.surrey.ca/services-payments/report-a-problem-or-submit-a-request and report the issue. The more we complain through the proper channels, the better chance we have of being heard.
Online Red Cross courses are available until June, with many options. Students can learn first aid skills from the comfort of their home in time for Summer break.
Red Cross Babysitting Course for youth 11-15 years.
Red Cross Stay Safe Course for youth 9-13 years.
Online – Please follow the registration link online at First Aid Hero and use promo code Sunnyside. Our school will earn $8 from each registration!
Thank you for participating in our first Scholastic Virtual Book Fair, and helping us raise money for resources for the library. Net sales were $1159.65, giving us $232 in rewards. We hope to return to the excitement of an in-house Book Fair next year.
The Grandview Heights Transition Committee, composed of future GH parents, meets once a month with Principal Darren Bedard. He welcomes any and all questions at grandview@surreyschools.ca. Questions or comments for discussion can also be sent to gina@sunnysidepac.ca. Go Grizzlies!
All Sunnyside parents are invited to attend PAC meetings. The next meeting is on Thursday, May 13 at 7pm, via Zoom. Location: Online via Zoom. To join the meeting:
