Message from the pac chair

I want to start by saying thank you. As a group of newbies during the 2017-18 school year, we had our hands full as we navigated a steep learning curve. We are now feeling extremely optimistic about our roles and our goals, and hope to make this year even better than the last. With our focus on community and communication, we hope to have a lasting, positive effect on Sunnyside.

With a new school year comes a brand new look to our PAC website, where information on current and future school events will be updated regularly.

Let’s begin our year with a promise to work together and create an environment where our kids can flourish. Sunnyside, we are a family and together we are awesome!

Join us on Thursday, September 20 at 5 pm for our yearly BBQ! Catch up with old friends, meet new parents, staff and teachers, and enjoy some good food. Meet the teacher night officially begins at 6 pm.

Consider volunteering an hour of your time to make this evening a success.

Spirit Wear is back! It is only available once a year, so don’t miss out. T-shirts and hoodies will be available for purchase only from September 17 to October 3. With over 660 students, it is imperative that we, as parents, help foster a sense of belonging. Never underestimate the power of school spirit.

Look for the notice in your child's planner or order online.

Our goal is to keep our children safe. There is no longer parent parking on the school grounds. We have a volunteer-run kiss and drop on the lower lot, whereby parents can drive in and drop off their children at a safe spot, close to the playground.

Consider giving 30 minutes of your time to make this a success.

Due to the number of students and vehicles at morning drop-off and after-school pick-up, we are requesting a traffic light be installed at the intersection of 28th Ave and 159th Street.

Follow these instructions to submit a request to the City of Surrey. It only takes about 1 minute!

The students really love it, so don’t miss out! You will be able to sign up for a new account and place an online order soon on Munch a Lunch.

We are actively looking for parents to help run the hot lunch program. Contact Donna, our hot lunch volunteer, if you are interested or would like more information.

The PAC monitors, maintains, and replenishes F.A.S.T. emergency kits on an annual basis. They are kept in a locked storage container on the east side of the gravel field.

Kindergarten families should be expecting a notice so they can purchase a kit for their child.

Students are encouraged to deposit their refundable juice and water bottles in the orange bins inside the school.

The PAC still has an account at the Return-It Depot, whereby all your refundable containers can be returned throughout the year and deposited into the Sunnyside PAC account. Our account number is simply 888-888-8888 and the funds will benefit Sunnyside Elementary.

Please volunteer for the following events/activities. We kept our time commitments to a minimum, so you are able to choose the time that works for you:

SCHOOL EVENTS ONLY HAPPEN WHEN FAMILIES VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME.

We have added an advocacy page to our website where parents are able to connect to those who need to hear our voices. We have already sent out information via the school App and Facebook regarding traffic safety. We will continue to do our best to make it easy for the community to participate.
