September 2019 newsletter
Message from the PAC president
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Sunnyside!
On behalf of the PAC Executive Team, we wanted to thank you for joining us for coffee and pastries on the first day of school. It was great to see new faces, as well as our returning families.
We are looking forward to another successful year of building community and raising funds for our school. Our first PAC meeting is on September 11 at 6:00pm and we hope to see many of you there. This is a time for us to discuss the upcoming school year, to ask questions and help you find opportunities to get involved with the PAC in ways that work for you. This is also a great opportunity for you to meet our new principal, Ms. Paredes. Our first school-wide event is the Welcome Back BBQ on September 19. This fun event coincides with Meet-the-Teacher Night and is a great opportunity to meet other families, have burgers for dinner, and raise funds for new technology for our students! This month we will also be hosting a Kindergarten Playdate for all of our new K’s. Details will follow shortly. Please read through the newsletter to find out about all of the events we have planned for our school year.
Thank you all for your support!
Join us on Thursday, September 19 from 5 to 7:15 pm for our annual BBQ! We'll be cooking up tasty burgers and hotdogs.
Cost: $5 for a burger (beef or veggie) or a hot dog, a beverage, and a bag of chips. All the profits will go toward the purchase of classroom technology. A big thank you to Centennial Foodservices and Kevin Basran Re/Max for sponsoring this event.
We will need many volunteers to make this evening a success. Sign up today!
A big fundraising goal this year is to increase the number of laptops and iPads for our growing population of students.
It will cost an estimated $15,000 to purchase new electronic devices, along with a lockable charging cart for our students to share. The proceeds of the BBQ will be directed toward this cause.
Sunnyside has 7 kindergarten classes this year! To help parents and children get acquainted, we will be hosting a playdate on Saturday, September 14, from 10-11am at Sunnyside's new playground. A notice with detailed information will be sent home soon.
The goal is to keep our children safe. With all the changes happening on our school grounds, the Kiss and Drop will also undergo a big transformation. We invite you to learn more about the changes at our first PAC meeting, on September 11.
Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to lead or help with the program.
