Message from the pac Chairperson

This has been a challenging year for all of us. Finding new interests and maintaining normalcy has been difficult. Despite that, Sunnyside families continue to shine. Thank you to everyone who has supported our limited events. It was wonderful to see all the decorations to celebrate our wonderful teachers and school administration. Hopefully next year we are back to all the wonderful events that the PAC provides.

Are you looking for something different and rewarding to do? Do you want to meet some like- minded parents to share your concerns & a laugh together? Why not consider helping out with making the school environment better for your kids? PAC nominations are coming up & we don’t have enough returning parent executives to run for reelection next year. Now’s the time! It takes a village!

This year's AGM is on Tuesday, June 9 at 7pm, via Zoom. All parents of students registered at Sunnyside for the 2021/22 school year are invited to nominate, and vote in, next year's PAC team. It's a great way to meet parents, get to know Sunnyside's principals and teachers, and make a genuine difference in your child's school.

To learn more about the roles and responsibilities of members of the PAC executive, feel free to contact us at info@sunnysidepac.ca. Detailed info can also be found in the Call for Nominations Notice.

Thank you for helping our teachers feel loved and appreciated. The chalk artwork around the school was beautiful and uplifting. The PAC usually hosts a teacher and staff appreciation potluck lunch, with the help of our families, but for obvious reasons that couldn't happen this year. Instead, we gave all the teachers a small lavender plant, and a gift card for a local coffee shop. In addition, we decorated the staff room with lavender plants and pots filled with packaged candy and chocolate.

Online Red Cross courses are available until June, with many options. Students can learn first aid skills from the comfort of their home in time for Summer break. All courses are online. Follow the registration link online at First Aid Hero and use promo code Sunnyside. Sunnyside earns $8 from each registration! Allow enough time for the workbook to be mailed home.

Red Cross Babysitting Course for youth 11-15 years.

Red Cross Stay Safe Course for youth 9-13 years.

We live in a busy neighbourhood, but we can make a difference. We are asking for parents to help out from 8:15 to 8:30am, by wearing a safety vest, and walking on the sidewalks along the school, as a visual deterrent. Please contact jennifer@sunnysidepac.ca, to volunteer.

We have been approved for a Crossing Guard, but the position is unfilled due to a shortage of people. Interested individuals can contact Len, of the Frontiersman of the Commonwealth, at (604) 597-4787.

The Grandview Heights Transition Committee, composed of future GH parents, meets once a month with Principal Darren Bedard. Construction is now 95% complete and they are now hiring teachers and staff. Presently seeking parents who would like to be part of the first Grandview Heights PAC. Send me a message at gina@sunnysidepac.ca if you're interested. Go Grizzlies!
