an electronic 3-D accelerometer
Touchscreen phones and video games use accelerometers to measure acceleration or things's speed in a direction. Basic laptops accelerometers are used to create broad area earthquake detection system.
Electronic accelerometers are tiny devices made of semi-conducting material often of a few millimetres length (Figure 2). These maybe manufactured cheaply and used in many everyday devices.
Despite this, many are unaware how often they're in contact with accelerometers and how accelerometers ensure safety.
Electronic accelerometers have applications in many fields, used in navigation, medicine, engineering, transportatio, electronic devices, etc.
Simple ones may be used to measure a direction's acceleration.
Complex ones can measure acceleration in 2-3 directions and an object's tilt and position.
Specific application are navigating menus, 3D object manipulation, screen rotation, etc.
