Carbon capture and storage
Carbon capture and storage
Capture: CO2 is separated and trapped from industrial exhaust gases (or directly from ambient air) before it can enter the atmosphere.
Transport: Captured CO2 is compressed into a dense, liquid-like state and moved via pipelines, ships, or trucks.
Storage: The compressed $\text{CO}_2$ is injected deep underground (typically over $1\text{ km}$ down into porous rock formations like depleted oil fields or saline aquifers) for permanent isolation.
