Induction motor
An induction motor/asynchronous motor is an AC motor where current in the rotor that produces torque is obtained by electromagnetic induction from a stator winding's magnetic field. Thus, an IM needs no electrical connections to the rotor. [2] An IM's rotor is either wound type or squirrel-cage type (SCIM).
It's most used motor type, even today. ~50% global power consumption is due IMs. 90% industrial motors are induction type.
