[D1] Bluetooth is a short range communication technology that replaces cables connecting portable units and maintaing high security levels.
It's a short range of standards to exchange data between fixed and mobile deevices in short distances via UHF radio waves of 2.402-2.48 GHz. It also builds personal area networks (PANs).
It's managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest (SIG) group. The IEEE standardized Bluetooth as IEEE 802.15.1 but no longer maintains the standard as SIG took over full control of writing, updating, and licensing the technology specifications.
[D1] The name is from Scandinavian origins of the tech, named after a 10th century Danish Viking, King Harald Blätand (Blätand means “Bluetooth” in English).
Legend says he liked eating blueberries such that his teeth got stained with the fruit's color fruit, hence his name.
Since he united Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, he was associated with uniting efforts, hence the association of uniting devices via Bluetooth
[D1] Email/Internet access: Portable computers receiving e-mails can receive alerts on a smartphone. Incoming emails can be browsed, selected, and be read on screen.
Device synchronizations: Devices can be automatically synchronized. E.g., as soon as an office is entered, their calender and notebook's address list, are automatically updated to agree to the one on their desktop or vice versa.
Voice and data communication: Bluetooth can handle both voice and data simultaneously. Cordless headsets can connect to a portable PC and use the PC as a speaker, whether in a car or at home. Bluetooth can also be used to transfer files and other datas, and even with rreminders between devices with the OBEX protocol (like PDAs), which facilitates binary object exchanges between devices.
