Voltage

[1], [2] Voltage/(Electrical) Potential difference/electric pressure/electric tension is difference in electric potential between 2 points--what pushes free electrons around circuit, measured in volts UI unit.

In a static electric field, it's work needed per charge unit to move a positive test charge from a first to second point.

Named after Italian physicist Alessandro Volta who invented voltaic pile--1st battery with steady current. Without voltage, free electrons move among atoms randomly, which arent useful.

Using voltage makes free electrons all move in same direction, making current.
