Ancient Equipment
Ancient Equipment
This type of equipment is much easier to socket and refine than normal equipment. It provides easy access to good gear for new players and are strong alternatives for existing players. Higher q0ualities of this gear may be obtained by running instances such as Rift Challenge Dungeons, Ponape Museum and Lost Isle . High quality gear obtained from these instances provides a random attribute that may even make this gear significantly better than an existing counterpart so existing players may find significant upgrades with this system.
Currently there is ancient equipment for the following slots:
Offhand
Armor
Garment
Footwear
Accessory
Do note that ancient equipment cannot be sold to others! This may be added in a future patch but for now you are at the mercy of RNG to obtain strong gear. This is seen as a curse to many but provides you with incentive to actually do content so hope that lady luck is with you. Fortunately there are systems in place that allow you to transfer your refine level and enchantments to new equipment allowing you to enhance potential upgrades without worry that you'll have to do it all over again when a better piece drops so it's not all bad.
Obtaining Ancient Equipment
Currently there are three types of ancient equipment available typically denoted by rarity color:
Green
Crafted using farmable materials, easy to make but has no bonus stat roll, avoid crafting these unless your brand new making your level 20 gear
Blue
Always comes with one bonus stat roll that's random based on the piece of gear
Purple
Always comes with one bonus stat roll that's random based on a piece of gear
Always comes with one PvP stat roll between 2.5% and 7.5%
With recent patches I've broken ancient equipment into three categories:
Newbie Ancient Equipment
Drops from Rift Challenges, with better, augmented versions appearing on higher difficulties
Basic equipment can be crafted in Prontera using basic materials farmed from low level monsters
Brilliant versions of this gear with augments cannot be crafted and must drop from Rift Challenges
Wasteland Ancient Equipment
Drops from Rift Challenges, with better, augmented versions appearing on higher difficulties
Can be crafted in the Wasteland using materials farmed outside of the Wasteland area in Louyang
Brilliant versions of this gear with augments can be crafted
Instanced Ancient Equipment
Ponape Museum drops Offhand and Body Armor
Lost Isle drops Garment, Footwear, and Accessories
Offhand and Body Armor pieces may be crafted weekly from the Haar Clay Workshop in Cloudsea Archipelago once you've unlocked this feature
If you have duplicates or undesirable augments then you can salvage gear at a furnace. The results for salvaging varies depending on the equipment salvaged:
Newbie Ancient Equipment gives 1 Fantasy Ember
Wasteland Ancient Equipment gives 1 Wasteland Ash
Instanced Offhand and Armor gives 4 Prehistoric Brands, a currency used to select any Offhand or Armor piece of your choice which will roll a random augment
Instanced Garment, Footwear, and Accessories will give 4 Brand of the Ocean, a currency used to select any Garment, Footwear, or Accessory of your choice which will roll a random augment
Repair & Enhancement
Ancient equipment is repaired and upgraded differently than normal gear. Rather than using copies for repairs and safe refining you use a new material which varies depending on the type of gear you're working with:
Newbie ancient equipment uses Fantasy Ember which is crafted using basic materials earned from farming low-level monsters such as Feathers
Wasteland ancient equipment uses Wasteland Ember which is crafted using Wasteland Materials or salvaging Wasteland Ancient Equipment at a furnace.
Instanced body armor and offhand equipment you use Hearth Ash which is crafted using materials farmed in the Comodo areas and drops from the Ponape Museum instance.
Instanced garments, footwear, and accessories are repaired using Sea Spirit Remnants from the new Lost Isle instance. Brand of the Ocean coins are also earned from the new dallies out in the new Hunting Grounds maps as part of the Seven Royals update.
Craftable materials used to repair and safe refine Wasteland Ancient Equipment of any kind. Also used to slot these types of equips.

Obtaining Repair & Enhance Materials
You can exchange materials dropped from monsters in the zones surrounding the content where the ancient equipment came from for these repair/refine materials. If for example, you're working on Wasteland Ancient Equipment, then you need to head to the Wasteland and farm those mobs. If instanced ancient equipment then head over to Comodo or Royal Hunting Grounds.
Location for Wasteland Ancient Equipment in the Wasteland
Location for Instanced Ancient Equipment in Comoro
To exchange talk to the Treasury box at your respective location to begin. If you're working on instanced gear then you'll need to select the appropriate refinement option from the list shown below. If you're working on instanced offhand and armor then select Furnace Heart Refinement. If instanced garment, footwear, and accessory then select Sea Spirit Remnant.
Once this is done you'll see an interface like the one shown below where you select materials on the left to spend to create the repair & enhance resource. In the example below I've only selected 50 Fantasy Flowers towards a Wasteland Ash but this is only 8% of what's needed. If I was only using Fantasy Flower this means I would need 625 fantasy flowers to craft one of these Ashes.
The materials requested vary based on which type of repair & enhancement material you're creating so the Wasteland Ash wants materials from other Louyang areas you may not have farmed in yet outside of Wasteland, whereas the materials to create Hearth Ash will instead require items farmed in Comodo areas.

Refining
Refines may be transferred between ancient equipment that occupies the same slot. This means if you get a better roll on the same equipment you can transfer your refines to the new equipment. Note that the equipment does not have to be the same so if you have a two offhands, one for PvE and another for PvP, you can swap between them using this feature saving you from having to +15 both pieces of equipment.
This is great if you decide to change builds or level other classes.
Enchanting
The process of enchanting is the same as existing gear. Talk to the Cat in Geffen and spend 4 mora coins and 20k zeny to roll enchants on this gear.
Enchantments may also be transferred from old equipment to new ancient equipment occupying the same slot for 400 mora coins. This not only provides a path forward for your old gear, but adds significant value to old gear with great enchants on incompatible gear, such as an Arch 4 enchant on mage armor. Being able to transfer these enchants into appropriate gear is a fantastic change.
Slotting
You may slot any piece of Ancient Equipment for five of the repair materials mentioned above and 100k zeny, very cheap!
Random Attribute Enhancement
The random attributes can be upgraded using Epic Spirit Crystals which are obtained from the new instance Ponape Secret Realm. Once you've obtained some you can access this by looking at your equipment and scrolling to the Random Attribute section and clicking on the blue icon to the right of the stat.
This brings up the Random Attributes upgrade window. Each attempt re-rolls your attribute with a chance to roll the maximum value. After 20 attempts your next attempt will guarantee a maximum roll so even if you have bad luck there is a pity to guarantee you get the perfect roll.
Blue grade equipment costs 5 Epic Spirit Crystals per attempt but Purple grade equipment costs 10 per attempt so keep this in mind when re-rolling these stats.

Ancient Ascension
With enough Epic Spirit Crystals you can even upgrade the grade of the equipment from Blue to Purple which will add the PvP stats. This is great if you already have a perfect rolled blue that you want to upgrade and use for PvP.
To do this access the same menu as before, then click on the second tab on the right side to access the Ancient Ascension window. It costs 100 Epic Spirit Crystals to do this but it's guaranteed to work. You may still have to use epic spirit crystals to upgrade this new PvP stat which may cost more. I don't have any purple quality ancient equipment so there may be a cost increase when re-rolling the PvP stat.
