Follow the Main Questline
The main quest starts off sending you to unlock Cat Mercenaries, then introduces you to Gashapon via the Academy Celebration Gashapon machine. The first pull you do as part of the quest always gives you the Koroko Master mount. Each item can be pulled from this machine only once so you'll eventually earn enough coins through completing the beginner quests to get everything in this machine.
This questline will very quickly send you to the Wasteland to unlock the Divine Tree. Continue on this questline to unlock various features such as the Growth Book, a series of tutorial tasks that reward you greatly.
Unlock the Divine Tree
As mentioned above your first few quests will take you to the Wasteland and unlock the Divine Tree via a short mission where you defend against waves of enemies. This tree provides a significant boost towards your Aesir monument as you upgrade it as well as providing zone wide benefits that make it easier to farm in the Wasteland and connected zones such as Spirit Breath, your primary farming zone until you beef up.

Unlock the Growth Book
The growth book is a new player feature that gives you tons of free stuff while you perform tasks that introduce you to various aspects of the game.
To access this you must complete a couple quests. First you'll need to farm up 660 Ancient Remains to upgrade the Divine Tree to unlock the Quicksand Time node. This second node unlock will open up the quest "Mysterious Flute".
You can obtain these materials by either farming monsters, opening random chests that you may have already seen as you've run about the zone, or completing some of the minigames. For information on these minigames see the Louyang Dailies page. The easiest place to farm these materials from monsters is Wind Breath, a zone west of Wasteland that contains level 120 mobs.

Completing this quest leads you to a follow-up quest called "Courage Mirror" that unlocks the Growth Book.
Note that you may have to swipe down in your quest list on the right to see it. Tap on that quest and follow it to Cryptura Academy and speak to the NPC in front of the tower. Speak to the NPC Angeal who has a "Brave's Trial" tag over his head and select Courage Mirror to unlock this feature.
