Discussion
How to have a happy family:
1. Spend time together.
a. Eating together – Lunch or dinner is the best time for afamily to be together. Eating together on time does not have to be every lunch or every night especially if the children have different schedules in school. This may be the time for the parents to discuss good behavior and to know how their children are doing in school. The children will also have the opportunity to ask how the parents are doing in their jobs.
b. Playing together – The family can have activities like games,
watching movies, or celebrating birthdays, anniversaries,
and important events that will bring them together.
c. Working together – Parents should assign specific chores
to every child. This fosters cooperation and unity among
family members. If each has his or her own chores to do,
there is no need for them to be told about the assigned
task. Instead, they will have the initiative to work.
d. Praying together – This brings the family members closer.
If this is already a habit, everybody prays wholeheartedly
without complaining.
e. Waking up on time – Usually, it is the parents who wake up
ahead of time because the mother usually prepares the food
for the children while the father helps in setting the table. But the parents will be happier if the children will wake up on time together with them. This shows that the children cooperate and care for their parents.
2. Keep the communication line open.
It is very important for a family to have an open line of communication. Each member should have the courage and respect to share and listen to the comments and opinions
of family members.
3. Let each member feel that he or she is loved.
Parents and children should show signs of love. Say “I love
you” from the heart.
4. Take care of each other.
If one family member is sick or has a problem, other members
should be ready to give a helping hand. Let him or her feel
that he or she is important in the family.
5. Show respect.
Children should respect their parents and the rules set by
them. On the other hand, parents should also respect their
children. They should listen to their opinions and ideas and encourage them to think and pursue their ambitions.
There is no perfect family. There will always be problems. If each
member of the family shares, contributes, works, and prays for the problem to be solved, anything is possible.
Each member has a mission to fulfill and this is to bring the
family together. One way of bringing the family together is through praying together.
Real Life Application
To better understand ourselves. When we can see our own family within the greater context of the experiences of other families and societal influences and trends, we understand ourselves better.
