We call our home.
Land , water ,and air make up the earth. Three – fourths of the earth is water. One – fourth is land. Around it is air.
The land part of the Earth is has different forms.
Mountain- It is a landform that is shaped like a cone. It is the highest form of land.
Mt .Apo in Davao – is the highest mountain in the Philippines.
Hill – It is smaller than a mountain. It is covered with thick grass and some trees.
Plateau – Baguio and Tagaytay City are examples of plateaus. A plateau is a mountain that has flat land top at the top.
Valley – A low – level land in between mountains is called a valley. Valleys are also farmlands.
Island- An island is land form surrounded by water.
Different Kinds of soil are found in these landforms
Clay – can be found on mountains sides. It is reddish brown, It is sticky when et and hard when dry. It is used in making vases, pots, jars, and bricks.
Sand - can be found on seashores and riverbanks. Most of them are gray in color. Sand has rough and loose particles. However, there are some white and fine particles.
Boracay is known for its powdery white sand.
Gravel are pebbles. They are small stones or crushed rocks. They have big and loose particles. Gravels with sand are used in making buildings. Churches, schools, malls houses, and offices are mostly made up of gravel and sand.
Loam – is used in gardens. Plants grow well in loam soil. It is a rich black soil. It has enough water and minerals. Loam can also be found in the mountains.
To make garden soil, gardeners mix sand and clay. They also put humus.
WATERFORMS
75% of Earth's surface consists of water. The water part of the Earth is called the Hydrosphere. Groundwater may be found in a deep or shallow part of the ground. It may return to the surface naturally through springs or go into lakes. It may also be extracted through a well.
Spring - is water that comes from underground and returns to the surface. One famous spring in the Philippines is the Maquinit hot spring in Coron, Palawan. Maquinit hot spring is the only salty hot spring in the country.
Rivers are flowing bodies of water. They are in between lands. River water comes from a highland called the head. It may end in an inland body of water called a lake or into the sea. The place where the river ends is called the mouth.
There are a lot of rivers in the Philippines. The Cagayan River is the longest in the country. Some rivers flow through caves, These rivers are called underground or subterranean rivers. The famous underground river, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, is in Palawan.
Waterfall - Water that rushes down a mountain and falls off. One of the popular waterfalls in the Philippines is the Pagsanjan Falls in Laguna .
Sea
- is a large body of water. It meets the mouth of a river. The biggest sea in the Philippines is the Philippines. The sea is part of the ocean an ocean is a body of saltwater. It is the largest body of water.
There are only 5 Oceans in the World; Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Antarctic, and Arctic.
