Discussion
Read this selection and find out the importance of sounds and silences. Sounds and Silences One late afternoon, while you were resting in the balcony of your house, you closed your eyes and listened to the sounds of the surroundings. You heard the whistling sound of the cool afternoon wind gently whispering into your ears. The blowing leaves and branches of the mango trees in the yard were rustling. The chirping of birds on the treetops was like music to your ears. Then, for a moment, there was complete silence, as if someone or something had stopped the sounds and movements of the things around you. Everything was quiet and peaceful. Your muscles felt relaxed as you kept your eyes shut. Eventually, you felt good. Listening to the sounds and silences of the surroundings once in a while calms both your body and mind. It makes you feel good.
What is the difference between sound and silence?
Sound is anything your ears can hear ( ), from objects or
things around you.
There are sounds that may not be pleasant such as noise
or loud sounds of an airplane, the siren of an ambulance, and
fi reworks.
There are also sounds that are likable and gentle to the ears
like soft musical tones. The ringing of the bell, the chirping of
birds, the whistling sound of the wind, the voice of your mother,
and the children’s laughter in the playground are all sounds.
Silence happens when you hear no sound. It also refers to the
absence of sound. It is mostly felt when things around you are
quiet. There is complete rest or stillness.

Real Life Application
In real life sound is very important to us in order to hear the sounds in our surroundings.Sound is a crucial aspect of our everyday lives. Just think about it – most of us communicate verbally, and it's pretty hard to understand body language alone. This makes sound the primary source of information. Words help us be clear and hearing a voice can already tell a lot about the message.
