DISCUSSION
Look at the animals in your neighborhood. What body parts do they use to get food? What body parts help them move? What body parts do they use to protect themselves? How are these animals similar? How are they different?
Animals need to move to find food and protect themselves. Animals move in different ways using different body parts.
Horses, cows , sheep, and pigs use their legs to walk and run.
Flightless birds like ducks and chickens use their two legs and short wings to walk and hop around. Eagles, owls, and falcons have bigger and wider wings which may be used for flying.
Fish have fins and tails. They use them for swimming and for gliding in the water. An octopus and a squid have tentacles to swim and catch their prey. A crab has many legs to crawl and walk on the ground. Frogs have strong hind legs and webbed feet to swim in the water. Rabbits and kangaroos have strong hind legs too, for hopping on land. Caterpillars have many legs. Snakes and worms have neither legs nor feet but they use their bodies to slither and crawl on land.
