Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus the Same
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Atheist Richard Dawkins says, “The fact that it has nothing else to contribute to human wisdom is no reason to hand religion a free licence to tell us what to do...Which religion, anyway?..The one in which we happen to have been brought up?...To which chapter, then, of which book of the Bible should we turn—for they are far from unanimous and some of them are odious by any reasonable standards...How many literalists have read enough of the Bible to know that the death penalty is prescribed for adultery, for gathering sticks on the sabbath and for cheeking your parents?...If we reject Deuteronomy and Leviticus (as all enlightened moderns do), by what criteria do we then decide which of religion's moral values to accept?...Or should we pick and choose among all the world's religions until we find one whose moral teaching suits us?...If so, again we must ask, by what criterion do we choose?...And if we have independent criteria for choosing among religious moralities, why not cut out the middle man and go straight for the moral choice without the religion?”...
So when I wonder why God has done the things in the way He has done them, I wonder about early man and his culture and how it has changed, when we look at man and culture today...Man has changed and does change...But God is God, and He is Complete Understanding, so I must trust in His understanding of things...I believe that when Moses wrote his Mosaic Law to give man laws and morals to live by he was presenting the country a set of laws to live by...I might bet the early laws of America had some interesting laws that have adapted over the years...And some of our earliest laws may have been and might be unbelievable to us now...So what Dawkins says, I can only respond by saying God did what He did to help man learn about Him...God wanted man to follow rules and laws and to learn about Him...Man in our early days, believed in God and believed in Deuteronomy and Leviticus as our moral laws...These laws were believable in Moses time and were the law and standards to live by...These two books started giving early man rules and laws to live by...And the Hebrew people, God's people had laws to live by...Moses wrote what he thought God had told him to write...And these laws were part of the process of learning who God was, and more importantly who God is...As the Bible unfolds, and we read through the early days of man, and then about Jesus, we can see how man has changed, yet God has not change, because Absolute Truth and Absolute LOVE do not change...
