Psalm 9:1-2
Love God with All Your Heart
1 I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust God with All Your Heart
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
When you want to love God and trust God you use your heart...
When we think of God with our minds, we try to reason about Him, and seek Him through reason and intellect...But we, also think of Him with our hearts...Jesus teaches us to have God as the central part of our lives...He wants His Father to be fully involved with God in our lives...Jesus wants us to follow God all of the time and not just a part of our time...He wants us to use all we have to seek Him...He wants us to use both our mind and our hearts, as well as anything to get close to Him...God wants all of us and not a part of us...I do not think God wants us to be indifferent about Him...He does not want us lukewarm in our thought about and with Him...Author George MacDonald said hatred of God is being closer to God than indifference to Him...
Sometimes, if not most of the time, our intellect will guide us to many things...But when we read about God, much is spoke of and focused on our hearts...We are finite, and God is infinite...When we only think of God with our minds, we are limited by our finite thoughts...Our mind will try to reason Him out, when we seek Him with our minds alone...Reasoning tends to be more of a finite thing...We think about God (with our minds) and give our reasons for believing in Him...When we think of Him in terms of love, we use our hearts...Love is different than a reasonable thought...When we reason, it is more tangible...We seem to get our minds around a reasonable thought, than a heart felt thought...Love from the heart is intangible...The feeling of love is eternal...Love is hard to define and describe, than the reasonable thoughts we have...
In finding God in our lives, we may use our heart and love more than anything else...Some, if not many people may find God through love, instead of through our reasoning process...Say a poll were taken and people were ask did you find God through love of your heart or reasoning of your mind...I think the poll would find "the love in my heart is why I believe in Him" - would win out...This is because, God is love...Therefore, in each of us wanting to get closer to God, it is better to use our hearts than our minds...I think, faith comes from the heart, and reason may come from the mind...To have faith in God, will come from your heart...We then are closer to God when we are using our hearts and thus using love, than seeking Him through reason...
