Mark 6:1-7
Jesus Only Heals a Few in His Hometown
1 Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. 7 Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.
It is written that Jesus could do many miracles, and among them are many healing miracles...People of bad health are made well by His healing touch or voice or command to get well...And even though He healed many, the people of His own hometown had little faith in Him...He did heal a few sick people and heal them, yet He was amazed at the lack of faith in His own hometown...
His hometown was amazed at His preaching on the Sabbath...Yet they questioned where His wisdom came from in His preaching...He had no formal education that they knew of, yet they could tell He had great wisdom...They knew His family and father and mother and brothers and sisters...And some took offense at Him...
The people who did not believe in Him in His own hometown lacked faith in Him...He humbled Himself, even though He came from God with Great Wisdom...God gave Him no great reputation...Yet, for those who believed in Him and had faith in Him could and would be healed...Faith is an important part of life and in the healing process...So only a few people would be healed in His own hometown...
So Jesus left His own hometown, amazed and yet knowing One must do the best and do good where we can do good...So He went from village and village helping those who believed and had faith...
