Mark 2:13-17
Jesus Comes for Sinners
13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the "sinners" and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: "Why does he eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
Man is flawed, and we sin...We fall short of the Glory of God...We sometimes do wrong...We stumble in our errors...We are sometimes disobedient to the LORD...We stumble with our morality...Thank God that God sent His Son to be our Savior from our sins and to save us -and allow us to pick ourselves up again...Jesus tells us that He came to call on sinners as He ate with the tax collectors, who were sinners...When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw Him eating with these "sinners" and tax collectors, they asked His disciples: "Why does He eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"...On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick...I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."...Jesus came for us who are flawed and because we are flawed...
C. S. Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity that, “In the same way a Christian is not a man who never goes wrong, but a man is enabled to repent and pick himself up and begin over again after each stumble--because the Christ-life is inside him, repairing him all the time, enabling him to repeat (in some degree) the kind of voluntary death which Christ Himself carried out."...
