Mark 4:35-41
Jesus Calms the Storm
35That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
41They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
Jesus was asleep...Maybe He was testing His disciples faith... When Jesus is with us, who or what can be against us...Maybe He wanted them to pray more and harder as the storm increased...Their faith was not as strong as it could be...But their fear was (strong)...
The disciples ask Him, if He cared...Of course, He cares...
Jesus said , "Quiet, be still"...He could have been referring both to the storm and His disciples fear...The wind quieted down immediately and no doubt the disciples fears would have subsided as the storm quieted...Then He said, "Do you still have no faith?"...
Jesus had quieted the threatening storm in their lives...He can quiet the storms in our lives too...We can move from fear to faith, and faith to fear in our everyday lives...There will be times when our prayers are strong and our faith is weak...In our lives, fear can overcome us...And remember, Jesus cares...He can quiet and still our fears... Even the winds and waves obey Him...
