Mark 4:35-41
Jesus Calms the Storm
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Sometimes things are going well and then all of a sudden things happen or something happens...This happened to Jesus' Disciples while they were in a boat, just relaxing...One day when evening came, Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”...Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along, just as He was, He got into the boat...There were also other boats around Him...A furious squall came up quickly, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped the boat they were in...Jesus not worried at all was in the stern, and had quickly fallen asleep on a cushion...
The story teaches us a lesson in faith...When Jesus is with us He helps us be safe...He tells us that peace He leaves us; My peace He gives to us...He does not give to us a peace that is like this world gives...And He teaches us do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid....But when Jesus turns to His disciples, they were afraid, fearful and had a lack of faith, even though He was with them Personally and has told them not to be afraid...The disciples we filled with fear, awe and terror, and even though they had seen Him do many miraculous things, the disciples still marveled at Jesus' authority over nature and ask themselves who He truly is...
This Story of Jesus calming the storm offers several profound lessons...Jesus has Divine Power...Jesus' has the ability to control the elements of the weather and it demonstrates His Divinity and Authority over nature...
We see the importance of faith...The story encourages faith in Jesus and God's ability to protect us through even the most challenging of circumstances...
We can overcome our fears and not be afraid when our faith is like His...His calmness serves as a reminder to trust in God and control our fears, even in the face of adversity and troubles...
