Mark 6:1-6
Few Miracles in His Hometown
1 Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Many people where Jesus grew up, just could not believe in Him...They could not believe that He could do miracles and thus had little faith in Him...
I believe, that we cannot believe in Something that does not resonate with us...If one cannot believe in miracles, then I believe it is very difficult to believe in Jesus...Jesus did many miracles...But only few in the hometown where He grew up...So I believe for people to believe in Jesus they must believe in miracles...So to believe in the Divine, one must believe that there is a Source who gave us creation and put us above Mother Nature, and the animal and plant kingdoms...Unless we can find something, somethings, or all things in the gospels that we feel is true then our faith suffers or is lessened...Our faith depends on what resonates with what we believe and can believe in...We need for our reasoning to somehow intersect with the ideas that the four gospel writers write about Jesus...We can hardly believe in Jesus , unless we believe what these authors wrote about in His teachings, His regular activities, and His miracles...
As seen by the people of Jesus' hometown, what a difference faith makes in one's life...Jesus could not do any miracles there, except lay His hands on a few sick people and heal them...He was amazed at their lack of faith...If one believes that miracles follow faith, then we must believe that Jesus has the power of miracles...But as we see even those who knew Him the most as He grew up, had trouble in believing that He is a Miracle Worker...And all the gospel writers write about His different miracles...To have a strong faith and believe the gospels, one must have the faith that Jesus can do the things He has done and can do and that He can impact your personal life...
