Mark 4:35-41
Jesus Calms the Storm
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
John 1:1-5
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Jesus' Disciples got to see many miracles...They seemed to be shocked by some, and maybe amazed by all of them...Jesus understood them, because He did them, and because the universe was made through Him...
God created the universe.God gave design to the universe...God gave us nature...God gave beauty to the universe...God gave order to the universe...And God gave Adam and Eve a perfect Paradise to live in called Eden...
God completely understands the creation He created, and what it took to create what He designed...And Jesus had been with God from the beginning, so He too understands miracles...C. S. Lewis said, "Nothing can seem extraordinary until you have discovered what is ordinary...Belief in miracles, far from depending on an ignorance of the laws of nature, is only possible in so far as those laws are known."...
In this order that God gave the universe it allows us, especially the physicists and mathematicians something they can measure...And let us say and believe that there is this natural order that God has created...What Lewis calls the "laws of nature"...But or since God created this order (this normal natural order) He can work around His creation and the universe He created...And when God works around this natural order, these laws of nature, it is called a miracle...Those who measure things of the universe find it difficult to believe because they are outside these laws of nature...These miracles are an unnatural order to the universe...Science at this time does not know how to measure these things of this unnatural order...And though those with Jesus, His Twelve Disciples, could not understand things like Him having the power to calm a raging storm the believed Him and followed Him...And Jesus tells His Disciples and us that it is by faith He has calmed the storm...Jesus said it this way about calming the raging storm...Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”...Then the wind died down and it was completely calm...He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid?...Do you still have no faith?”...
Miracles take this faith and belief in God and His Son...
