Mark 1:29-34
Jesus Heals Many
29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
Mark 2:13-17
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners
13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Matthew 16:1-4
The Sign of Jonah
1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.
Jesus came to earth not for the healthy...Jesus came to heal...He did heal many who had various diseases...He was a Good Doctor, a very good doctor...But this was not the main reason He came to earth...This Good Doctor came to earth for us who are ill with sin...The patients, He was seeking, were sinners...Because He LOVES sinners...In fact, He would die for sinners...
I think that those who did not believe in Him, probably thought He was a Good Doctor...They may have even thought He was the best healer ever, yet He was not the Messiah...And He did do many healings...But they did not believe He was doing miracles...They just thought He was a Doctor doing what Doctor's do, and that is to heal...They would see Him healing His people and thought that is all there is too it...They did not think about all His other miracles, and think about changing water into wine, walking on water, calming a raging storm, and Him raising the dead...Although His opposition did not personally see all His miracle, they would have heard about them...The Pharisees, and others who opposed Him, did not see Him as much more than this Doctor...They failed to see that He had demonstrated through His healings, and all His miracles that He is our Messiah...He is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God (Matthew 16:16)...
Let us recognize like St. Peter that Jesus was not only the Good Doctor, but gave us the Sign of Jonah to everyone that He would resurrect from the dead, and is the Son of the Living God...
