Mark 6:1-6
Jesus Was a Carpenter
1 Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Good carpenters act with integrity and transparency...In the carpentry business, your income is highly dependent on your skill, integrity, and reputation...And I would add trust to this statement...
We are not told why Jesus chose the career of a Carpenter, but He may have done so because His family had no land to farm, and that is what His father Joseph did...There probably was very few career opportunities in the workplace in His time...But we can believe He was very good at His job...
Since Jesus and nature go hand in hand, since all things were made through Him, His Skillset as a Carpenter had to be the Universe's best...A True Artisan He would have been...An artisan, who could see the fruits of His very work every day, be it a simple piece of furniture or a small hand carved item for a home...They would have been magnificent...The Creation process He would have used must have struck those who bought His products and saw His labor of LOVE with the wood would have been in awe of His Craftsmanship...Even Bezalel and Oholiab who were master craftsmen and architects of the Tabernacle, would have stared at His work in awe...They both were fantastic craftsmen who had a revelation of dwelling in the secret place-the tabernacle and in the Father's Presence before being masters in their work!...They would have enjoyed watching Him Work and Design...He is the Great Designer...
He would have brought happy thoughts in the work and designs He did and created incredibly beautiful feelings for His customers...The tree which He created many years ago, could now be carved and cut into the most beautiful of objects for those He was building for...The Divine One's Personal touch on the wood would have the wood envy with thoughts that it would be the next most beautiful piece of art and craftsmanship...
