Mark 3:1-6
Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
1Another time he went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Stand up in front of everyone."
4Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent.
5He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
The teachers of the law, the Pharisees, and others challenge Jesus about the Sabbath...Jesus says many things about the Sabbath...He does heal and teach on the Sabbath and does it right in front of His opponents...
Some how and in some way(s) down through the ages, healing on the Sabbath got to be considered work...Jesus explains more to us about the Sabbath...
Since Jesus is LORD of the Sabbath, then He knows what to do and not to do on the Sabbath...Jesus teaches us to do good, not evil on the Sabbath...We are to save life and not take life on the Sabbath...
Those who opposed Him, were more interested in how they might destroy Him, instead of listening to His teachings...How much they missed...They were actual eye witnesses to the Greatest Teacher ever and were not listening...They had an agenda and it (their agenda) was going to happen, no matter what...They missed the way, the truth, and the life...
The man with the withered hand was told by Jesus to stretch out his hand...He followed Jesus' command, reached out (on the Sabbath) and he was healed...
If we are so focused on one thing or the wrong thing, we may be missing things that are good...We at times must step back, look for our good (not evil) and reach out to Him...There He will be to heal us and be with us...He is not only LORD of the Sabbath, He is LORD...
