Mark 6:1-6
Few Miracles in His Hometown
1 Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Jesus is Divine...He could have healed everyone in His hometown, but He did not...In fact, He could have healed all those in Israel but He did not...As a matter of fact, He could have healed all the people in the world when He walked the earth but He did not...One might have thought that He would have wanted to do miracles in His hometown, but we can tell by Mark's gospel, He does not take that approach...We are told about the lack of faith in His own hometown...
There is a reason for this and God Alone Knows...Much of His not healing and doing miracles in His hometown was a matter of faith...He could not do any miracles there, except lay His hands on a few sick people and heal them...He was amazed at their lack of faith...
The people of His hometown lacked faith in Him...So we need faith for miracles to happen...Yet, even with people of faith, God seems to do healing miracles on some and He chooses not to do some on others...But people of faith and wisely continue to pray and believe that He can do miracles, and heal us and our family and friends when we pray to Him faithfully...But in the end, it is God's Will that does miracles, and it is His Plan that controls earth as He does the heavens...
