Mark 1:29-39
29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her.31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”
38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
Jesus healed many...When He was at Peter's house He healed his mother-in-law, who was sick and in bed with a fever...When He touched her hand, she was healed...The people waited until after sunset (it may have been the Sabbath, and Sabbath ends at sunset), and the people brought all the sick and demon-possessed to Him...We are told the "whole town" gathered at the door of Simon Peter...They were are waiting to see Jesus do a faith healing miracle...The whole town got what they wanted...Jesus healed all the sick and all the demon-possessed...
Jesus had to be very popular for the "whole town" to come out to see Him...He was quickly becoming popular and famous around the region of Galilee...I would expect popularity of this kind or having large crowds (especially, a whole town) following you -can get in the way of what One needs to be doing and what needs to be done...But this did not distract Him from anything...After healing the whole town of Capernaum or near Capernaum, He gets up very early in the morning, while it was still dark and went to a solitary place where He could pray...He is preparing Himself for this day with prayer...
Peter must have gotten up later after all the healing and meeting the whole town, just last evening and last night -and sees Jesus is gone...Peter and the other disciples go looking for Him...After Peter and the disciples find Him, Peter exclaims that everyone is still looking for Him (and it is now morning)..Jesus has become very popular in the region of Galilee...He now maybe even famous throughout the region of Galilee...But Jesus stays focused and disciplined, and is not at all distracted with all that is going on around Him...With the confidence of a Great Leader and Teacher, Jesus tells His disciples, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also...That is why I have come.” ...
Jesus has come to earth to preach us the good news about eternity and the Kingdom of God, and about God Himself...This is the reason He has come to earth...With all the things going on around Him, He is prepared with His morning prayers, organized, and focused and ready to preach the gospel and news about His Father...He wants to teach everyone about God's Word...He wants to teach everyone about God, His Kingdom and beyond this life...And in all His teachings His Love for us comes out...Before He came to earth, He has been with His Father from the very beginning (John 1:1-2), and His Father is Love (1 John 4:8)...Him and His disciples move on to teach and heal others...He leads the Way...
What an example Jesus sets for us...He humbly accepts all the fame and popularity surrounding Him, with great humility...He heals an entire town, and has met their needs...After doing that, I know that One might be tired (it was not until evening when the whole town came over)...But, He gets up very, very early in the morning and goes to a quiet place to pray to prepare Himself for His next day's work and responsibilities...
