Mark 1:21-28
Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit
21They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, 24"What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"
25"Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!" 26The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." 28News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
On the Sabbath, in the synagogue a man is possessed by an evil spirit...Satan is an evil, unclean spirit...He lurks everywhere, even in the synagogue and on the Sabbath...The evil one knows Jesus and goodness and recognizes Him immediately...Not only does evil recognize Jesus, evil knows Jesus is Holy and of God...
Jesus is one who has authority, even beyond the teachers of the law...So many people were amazed at His teachings and listened to Him, because He was One who spoke with an authority...
The evil one, wanted to know if Jesus was going to destroy him... Jesus does cast out the evil in the man on the Sabbath at the synagogue...Evil shook the man violently and came out with a shriek...
Not really knowing what happened and trying to believe what they just saw, witnesses start asking questions...Was this was a new teaching- and with (what) authority, this was done???... News spread quickly because miracles like this get around quickly...Jesus would quickly be known by many in Galilee...
The mind of evil is against our LORD...The flesh and earthly thoughts are often wicked and sinful...We see and read miracles of good and quickly let them go, pass them by, or neglect them...Evil finds a home and wants to stay...When evil is rung out of a soul if takes a shriek, and is not without a fight or a period of struggling time...
The LORD has come with a faithful message about God, about the good news, and is ministering to people, with a Holiness that shows authority...His (new) teachings are to be studied and practiced, but not to be neglected or quickly forgotten...
