Matthew 21:18-22
Believe and Receive
18Early in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was
hungry. 19Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.
20When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked.
21Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
Mark 5:35-36
Don't Be Afraid, Just Believe
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
John 14:1
Believe in God, but Believe also in Me
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
What is it that helps us when we are afraid and troubled,?...What inside is helps us get over that trouble and or fear?...Is it belief and faith?...When and if you believe, you will receive...Jesus believed He could curse a fig tree just by saying to it "may you never bear fruit again"... There is immediate judgment, if Jesus wants there to be...The fig tree received His immediate judgment...He knew His disciples were watching, so He was teaching them about belief in Him and belief in God...He told them, if they believed, they would receive whatever they ask in prayer...Now they could see what He did and was doing, they did not have His Power from God, but more importantly they were gaining faith and would have faith in Him as His ministry advanced...
Jairus had a reason to be afraid...His daughter had just died, according to the earthly laws...But Jairus has a reason for faith and to believe...Jairus had Jesus standing right beside him...Jesus was alive and listening to Jairus...How great that is, to know He is at our side...If Jairus had been with the disciples and Jesus the day of the fig tree, he would realize the power of believing...He might better understand when he prayed, if he believes he would get his daughter back to life...It is the belief in Him and God, that will bring Jairus' daughter back...Jairus believes in Jesus and His Father...
The lesson we learn is we must have Jesus with us, at our sides so to speak, like Jairus did...So belief is important, but we need more...So whether we are troubled or untroubled, believe in God, but believe also in Jesus...Believe in the Son and the One who sent Him...But even the evil one believes that Jesus exists, but he does not want Him beside him or want a relationship with Him or His Father...So we must want and have a relationship with our Saviour...We must accept that we are sinners, and that He died for our sins on the cross...Jesus loves us and our focus must be on Him...Grow your belief and faith, by reading the Bible everyday...Practice believing that Jesus is alive and at our side everyday...We often forget and are afraid like Jairus but we must remember and are in His Presence, He is alive...
