Robin Gray

1933 - 2016

London-based Robin Stafford Gray was born on July 11, 1933, and rode as an amateur in the 1960s and 70s, and combined racing journalism with commentating at licensed racecourses. He became a well-known figure at point-to-points in his later years, acting as press officer for the Sandhurst area and regularly commentating at meetings.

Always immaculately dressed, and with a voice that perfectly complemented a microphone, Robin was a gentleman whose love of racing and the people that competed was infectious. He took a genuine interest in, and encouraged, the careers of young riders and trainers.

Robin died aged 83 on 1 August, 2016 leaving a widow, Gillian, a daughter, Laura, and son, William.

His funeral took place at West Berkshire Crematorium on Tuesday (August 16) at 10.30 am.
