It took Peter Guest nearly eight years to ride his only winner under National Hunt rules, having had his first ride in public when Roman Receipt finished sixth of 12 starters in the Hayling Novices’ Hurdle at Fontwell Park on Whit Monday, May 29, 1978.
He finally made the winner’s enclosure at Plumpton on March 29, 1986, when Coldharbour Lad led after the third last flight and ran on for a comfortable six-length success in the Hallands Selling Handicap Hurdle.
The winner was bred, owned and trained by permit holder Mr E. L. Beever, an engineering director cum farmer, based at Little Coldharbour Farm, Lamberhurst, near Tunbridge Wells. Peter had ridden the five-year-old four times that season finishing third once.
His last ride was on Little Dickens, trailing home last of eight in the Drayton Selling Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell Park on Whit Monday, May 25, 1987, the corresponding meeting to the one where he had made his debut nine years earlier.
Coldharbour Lad was Peter Guest's solitary winner as a jockey
