James Gallon

1853 - 1930

James, born at Alnwick, Northumberland on September 23, 1853, was apprenticed to Alec Taylor and won the 1881 Lincoln on Buchanan.

He was also on board the winners of the 1880 Ayr Gold Cup (Strathblane) and the 1878 & 1883 City & Suburbans (Sefton & Roysterer).

James 'Tiny' Gallon went bankrupt in 1884 owing £607 with assets of £214. He blamed it on a bad accident in 1884 which stopped him from riding, forcing him to earn a living riding in trials.

He died on February 18, 1930, aged 76.
