Rae Guest

Born in Wantage (birthplace of Lester Piggott) on July 9, 1950, Rae Guest rode nearly 300 winners in Scandinavia and India netting 17 classics before he scored his first winner in England.

This came in 1979 when he was 29. He joined the stable of Luca Cumani in 1980.

He was unable to make his mark - 1982 he finished in the first three 20 times from 59 mounts

His first winner in Denmark was Gambler in 1970.

His best season in Britain came in 1985 with 42 winners. In all, he won over 300 winners worldwide

He rode several good horses including Comanche Run, Tolomeo and Old Country.

His best win was on Free Guest in the 1985 Princess Royal Stakes. He also won Newmarket's Van Geest Stakes on Capricorn Bell. He rode Old Country to finish second in Epsom's Coronation Cup and was third to Teenoso on Tolemeo in the 1985 King George Vl and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Rae came from a racing background; his father Charlie was a jockey and his uncle was Nelson Guest, a trainer. His brother, Richard Guest, won the Grand National on Red Marauder.

He turned his hand to training and, from Chestnut Tree Stables in Hamilton Road, Newmarket, began sending out winners. A notable success came when My Emma won the 1996 Group 1 Prix Vermeille. Rae was also responsible for preparing Serious Attitude to win the 2008 Cheveley Park Stakes under Jimmy Fortun
