George Goswell Jr.

1899 -1970

George Gordon Goswell, son of jockey George, was born at Wrexham on November 18, 1899, and was apprenticed to his father & Henry Escott at Lewes.

Aged six, he rode out with the hounds; as a teenager he began pony racing in Blackpool.

During the war, he served as a cavalryman with the Queen's Bays.

After the war, both he and his brother rode with success over jumps.

He finished third in the 1924 National on Silvo and rode Shaun Goilin to win his first race over fences at Cheltenham.

George died at Leeds on December 23, 1970.
