Born in 1951, Dave Goodwin rode over jumps for a couple of seasons in the early 1970s and had one win.
Apprenticed to former National Hunt jockey Alan Oughton, he had his first ride at Wye on January 10, 1972, when Tartaric finished a well-beaten third in the Tenterton Opportunity Selling Handicap Hurdle.
Sadly, by the time Dave had his only success Alan Oughton had died of cancer, so his widow Diane now held the trainer’s licence and ran the stable. Dave scored on one of her horses when Blameless Stall comfortably beat Regal Jump, ridden by Viv Percival, by ten lengths in the Maudlin Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell Park on October 16, 1972.
Blameless Stall did not run again until February, when unplaced at Fontwell Park, and it was on this horse that Dave had his final ride when finishing third in the Don Butchers Challenge Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton on March 7, 1973, albeit a long way behind the first two.
Dave Goodwin's solitary winner, Blameless Stall, came at Fontwell Park on October 16, 1972.
