JORY

Your Majesty?

We did not find Sir Tristan on the beach, but…

… one of the sentries said they saw him go into Merlin’s cave with the enchanter.

MARK

Ah…

So he’s safe…

Thank you…

[ back to cardiff! ]

BRIANE

Nine months later, Galahad was born.

LAMORAK

You’re not gonna make me believe Lancelot willingly⎯

BRIANE

She was never willing.

LAMORAK

You knew?

AGLOVALE

Of course not! Galahad…

Galahad was brought to Camelot from a hospice in Corbenic, not from the castle!

BRIANE

Because not everything went according to plan.

Lancelot was forced to remain in Corbenic to ensure everything went smoothly, and…

I felt so guilty.

So I decided to take Galahad to that hospice, and hid it from everyone.

But all I accomplished was to back us into a dead end…and endanger you all.

So a few months later, when Pellinore was…

I decided to flee.

I wanted to take you with me, to protect you, but

you were already caught in the workings of knighthood.

I felt powerless.

And your oath to the Round Table protected you.

As Arthur’s allies, Pelles would never try to lay a hand on you.

LAMORAK

Despite all that, he tried to get to Percival.

BRIANE :

[perplexed] … After so long, I think he’s grown desperate.

His son is dead, and he himself can no longer produce an heir.

So the only ones eligible to become the Grail’s guardians are now

Galahad and Percival.

Unless you wish to sacrifice your future progeny…

AGLOVALE

BRIANE

But we’re running out of time.

LAMORAK

You’re despicable.

BRIANE :

 …

LAMORAK

How could you?

To put Lancelot through all that was⎯

BRIANE

Should I have chosen to put you through the same thing instead?

LAMORAK :

 …

BRIANE

Listen, I am not looking for forgiveness.

Neither do I expect you to understand the way I felt. I have my own remorses, my own shame to carry.

But I did it all to protect my children.

And I think

that any parent would do the same.

AGLOVALE

PERCIVAL

What are you going to do now, Mother?

BRIANE

I’m going back to North Wales.

I…

… was really glad to see you again,

my big boys.

PERCIVAL

You could stay with us!

BRIANE

No.

I don’t want to watch you climb ranks among the knights, it’s…

… it’s too painful for me.

Besides, my staff is waiting for me in North Wales.

I’ll have you know Neste is expecting her first child.

PERCIVAL

Oh!

Can I come and see her?

BRIANE

I’ll think about it.

Perhaps you’ll receive an invitation to celebrate the birth…

AGLOVALE

May I ask you something indiscreet, Mother?

Do you think Father could have sired an illegitimate child?

BRIANE

… [ sighs ]

… It’s possible.

Your father was a warrior, a risk-taker and an eccentric.

We were undeniably fond of each other, but

I cannot be certain he never strayed.

The only thing I know for sure is that he loved you all.

More than anything.

Why the question, though?

AGLOVALE

I’m not sure.

I’m looking for answers to questions that may simply have spawned from a misunderstanding.

PERCIVAL

Mother left at dawn.

Something deep inside me was screaming,

as if

it was the last time I’d ever see her.

Our trip back to Camelot went without a hitch.

Upon arriving, we learned that Tristan and Iseult had been banned from Tintagel until further notice,

and that Dinadan had to spend three days in jail for acting without Arthur’s knowledge.

DINADAN

Arthur had that fed-up face on, you know the one, when he’s starting to look a little scary⎯

Three days in the clink, I swear!

PERCIVAL

He made a point of asking Aglovale a few questions about what we learned.

DINADAN

Alright, you don’t want to tell me why Galahad’s eligible.

But can you tell me if

you noticed a connection between Corbenic and Gaunes while going through the registries, then?

AGLOVALE

Gaunes?

It was part of France, then got swallowed up by Benwick after the Germanic invasions. What sort of connection are you looking for there?

DINADAN

I’m just trying to make some sense out of this mess.

I’ll go and do some research in some archives around Britain,

but I need to know what I’m looking for.

Why would Lionel be called to protect the Grail?

Why him and not Sagramore, or your father, or…

… or even mine, while we’re at it?

And what about the ones who were protecting the lance and the sword we used to make the hound, who are they?

What’s the common thread?

Maybe going back to the Grail’s origins is the way to go…?

AGLOVALE

Going back to the roots…

Say, Dinadan…

When Lamorak was in Dame Morgan’s care, you told him to stay on his guard.

You weren’t just mocking him, were you?

DINADAN

I have my doubts about her.

Since that quest with the shield, I’ve seen more and more signs that she could be plotting something.

AGLOVALE

How so?

DINADAN

That’s the problem, I don’t know.

There are several things that don’t make sense, and it looks like she’s at the center of it all, but in terms of actual facts, I have nothing.

That’s exactly why I’m not going to confront her. I need more to work with.

A solid lead, a motive…

…evidence.

Else, it’ll be considered baseless defamation, which won’t be without consequences.

Why the question?

AGLOVALE

…I fear I’m in the same situation.

DINADAN

…But you’re not going to say anything, even if it stays between us?

AGLOVALE :

 I mean no offense,

but I don’t know who I can trust.

And I intend to clear some things up myself.

DINADAN

AGLOVALE

But if I manage to shed some light on all this, I’ll let you know.

For now, you may find some answers in Lothian or in Orkney

if you sniff around the time of the rebellions, and the months that followed.

I am quite convinced that the crux of the problem lies there, and having the “enemy’s” point of view could help us see clearer.

DINADAN

Very well, I’ll jot that down.

You, keep an eye on her.

And on your brother, while you’re at it.

MORGAN

You should’ve gone to see an apothecary, instead of waiting for it to become infected like an idiot.

BREUSE

I’m broke as hell.

And I wanted an expert.

MORGAN

What’s all my funding for, then?

Besides, I’m no miracle worker.

[ she tightens the knot on his bandages. ]

I  already have my hands full keeping watch over Lamorak…

He’s been coming onto me rather shamelessly, by the way.

Perhaps I’ll give in to him.

BREUSE

To Lamorak? Really?

MORGAN

Are you jealous? (hehe)

BREUSE

Don’t be ridiculous.

I just don’t see what you mean to get out of it.

MORGAN

Maybe I’m only looking for a good time.

BREUSE

You know he doesn’t have a dick, right?

MORGAN

And?

Having one clearly doesn’t make you an expert.

BREUSE

… ( Ouch. )

MORGAN

But enough of that. Tell me how things are looking on Mark’s side.

BREUSE :

If you must know, there are tensions there.

I’ll even say that since Arthur’s visit, any reason’s good enough to escalate the situation.

You were persuasive.

[ morgan tucks his sword into his belt. ]

MORGAN :

Mark doesn’t need to be persuaded, he needs to be reassured.

He’s succumbing to his paranoia, which benefits me.

You never asked me what I do all this for.

BREUSE

It’s none of my business.

Plus, something tells me I’m not the kind of person you want to confide in.

MORGAN

And why not?

BREUSE

( Heh. ) Because I, too,

look for people’s weaknesses to better take advantage of them.

MORGAN

… The thing is⎯

[ BOOM! ]

MORGAN

What…?

It’s coming from the Listenoise brothers’ quarters…?
