PERCIVAL

It must be so amazing to be a mage!

To be able to use magic as you will…

I watched your mother heal Tristan, it was fascinating.

Do you know how to become a mage, maybe?

MORDRED

Not at all. Mother usually avoids the subject entirely.

She still taught me little things here and there, though, so

I know a few spells, in theory.

PERCIVAL

Oh, like what?

MORDRED

If I could use magic, I could make a minor wound close up on its own, or manifest a⎯

GAWAIN

Now, now, Mordred…

You could brag about your talents as a woodworker

rather than what you could do in theory!

PERCIVAL

Ooh, really?

GAWAIN

Indeed!

MORDRED

Gawain…

GAWAIN

This charming little birdhouse he carved from birchwood with his own two hands…

MORDRED

Gawain…

GAWAIN

…is still sitting in the branches of the great tree in our garden in Orkney.

MORDRED

Gawain…

GAWAIN

Absolutely adorable!

MORDRED

I⎯  [ percy is wowed!! ]

I, I, I, I⎯

GAWAIN

Dear Percival, why don’t you go and tell Palamedes we’re almost ready?

I’ve only got a few more details to sort out, we should be all set to board soon.

PERCIVAL

Yes, Sir Gawain.

GAWAIN

Thank you, my boy.

PERCIVAL

( I wouldn’t have imagined Sir Gawain to be so kind in her everyday life.

But after all, she’s always been that.

Even that one time I badmouthed my brothers…

The journey from Camelot felt like it took forever.

I’ve never been this far north.

It’s getting colder and colder… )

GAWAIN

I so rarely get to come back home! We should get some drinks to celebrate!

PERCIVAL

( …but Sir Gawain has been very warm and cheerful from the very start,

unlike… )

Sir Palamedes.

We’ve got a place on board, I came to fetch you.

PALAMEDES

Very well. You can start by picking up these bags, here.

[ she sifts through the contents of her bag while percy picks up his. this is awkward ]

PALAMEDES

Say-

PERCIVAL

Actually, you’re⎯

[ Extra Awkward ]

PALAMEDES

…Yes?

PERCIVAL

…You’re really worried about Lamorak, aren’t you?

PALAMEDES

…Yes.

PERCIVAL

Why did you run away when you could’ve seen him, then?

PALAMEDES

…I wanted to take the opportunity to speak with Aglovale.

But he wasn’t available.

PERCIVAL

( So she lost her nerve? )

PALAMEDES

I’ve been trying to talk to him for some time now.

PERCIVAL

For how long?

PALAMEDES

… I…

PERCIVAL

… Sir?

PALAMEDES

Long story short…

… Pellinore…

… entrusted me with the quest of his lifetime…

… but not Aglovale.

Pellinore was after a destructive beast,

one that’s said to have fought members of your family, long ago.

It has been wandering around Britain for decades,

and can be recognized by its peculiar cry.

Pellinore went up against it a few times

but never managed to finish it off, so swift was it.

He was frustrated,

but most of all, he was exhausted.

So, he pulled me aside, knight to squire,

and bid me complete his mission in his stead.

Aglovale…

… did not take it well.

Knowing Pellinore,

the passing of his quest to his own children was obvious and needed no confirmation.

Or maybe he wanted to spare them from carrying on with this heavy burden.

PERCIVAL

… So that’s why you don’t get along?

Because Aglovale wasn’t included in that quest?

It’d be…petty of him, wouldn’t it?

PALAMEDES

… It’s a matter of honor.

His father chose a foreigner over him.

[ percy is perplexed ]

…That’s not all, though.

When Gawain… did what she did,

I did not disavow her.

I did not blame her.

What’s more, I’ll even say that

Pellinore knew what he was getting into.

So I refuse to make an enemy of Gawain over it.

PERCIVAL

Is that so wrong, though?

PALAMEDES

… Hard to say.

PERCIVAL

Aglovale sometimes gives the impression that he’s all but unyielding.

Is that what you’re afraid of?

Talking to him would make everything clearer, wouldn’t it?

PALAMEDES

… Let’s go.

PERCIVAL

( We boarded the ship, heading out to sea off the coast of Dalriada.

The weather and landscapes fascinated me, and almost made me forget my puzzlement

in the face of the complexity of interpersonal relationships. )

BORS

… Listen, ladies…

I’m very happy to spend time with you as a family, but if I have to be the one to fill the silence…

… I’m not the most qualified person for the job.

GALAHAD

Oh, sorry, Bors, I was too focused on this place.

It’s not everyday you see such a building in such a state.

BORS

Yes, and the architecture’s quite unusual, isn’t it!

[ lancelot unsheathes her sword. ]

GALAHAD

Wasn’t it home to Reinfrid of Saxony, before it was abandoned?

LANCELOT

Quiet.

[ she gestures them forward ]

GALAHAD

( I’ve always enjoyed learning about other kingdoms.

This place is very, very old.

Many lords ruled here one after the other, before foreign invasions…Things you’d read about in books.

But listening to what the people have to say about it is another experience entirely.

What I truly learned here…

… was that it had a reputation for being haunted. )

ROUND TABLE TRIVIA

The four great holidays serve to mark different points of the year, but they also influence unexpected aspects of daily life.

As a reminder : Samhain (November 1st), Imbolc (February 1st), Beltane (May 1st), Lughnasadh (August 1st)

Among other thing, they’re tied to birthdays.

Tristan

I was born after February 1st but before May 1st, so I’m a child of Imbolc.

Popular belief claims that the season determines some aspects of its “children” : their temper, their fate or their skills.

Mordred

I was born on May 1st, so on Beltane.

Being born on the very day of a holiday foretells an exceptional destiny.
