GIANT :

Huh, looks like she dropped him.

She must’ve found he wasn’t to her taste after all.

You seem pretty affected by this turn of events.

Your odds of dying here are much higher than his odds of dying out there, you know.

KAY :

Are you sure?

GAWAIN :

KAY, STOP!

Save your strength for something actually useful!

Go to Arthur, he needs you more than he needs me.

KAY :

I won’t leave you here.

GAWAIN :

Damn it,  do you even hear yourself?

Would you leave Arthur to face danger alone?

KAY :

[ the fire around his hand goes out ]

I think

that Arthur is neither alone, nor in immediate danger,

but that they're forcing us to go to him as fast as possible in order to split us up and weaken our forces.

I’d rather take down this piece of shit before getting to Arthur…

….than end up having to fight two giants, or more, at the same time.

GAWAIN :

…I suppose you can’t be convinced?

KAY :

No.

GAWAIN :

You can be so bloody stubborn sometimes.

KAY :

So I’ve been told.

GIANT :

So you want to fight me as a pair?

Very well.

It’s about time I took this seriously, then.

PERCIVAL :

( …What…? )

?? :

Well, well…

Whatever are you doing here, little land-dweller?

And holding Excalibur, too.

I thought I’d sensed its presence.

Oh!

How careless of me.

You can’t breathe here.

I am Viviane, the one they call the Lady of the Lake.

Your face seems quite familiar. You must be Listenoise’s youngest.

Has Briane returned, then?

[ percy speaks, but what he says is unheard to us ]

VIVIANE :

Help you?

I’m not strong enough, I’m afraid.

But fear not!

I brought some muscle along.

?? :

Is everything alright?

PERCIVAL :

Who…

…are you?

LANCELOT :

Lancelot du Lac.

We’ve come as reinforcements.

PERCIVAL :

( Lancelot du Lac?

So that’s her? )

LANCELOT :

Hold on tight.

VIVIANE :

I got Excalibur and its scabbard back.

Get down, now, so I can dry you up. I won’t let you wander around soaked to the bone in the middle of the night.

I saw some ruckus up on the mountaintop.

Do you know whether the giant is armed, little one?

PERCIVAL :

…Which one?

VIVIANE :

Do you mean to say there’s more than one?

PERCIVAL :

I saw three…

One of them is dead, I…

I…

La…

Lamorak?

LANCELOT :

Mother.

VIVIANE :

Yes.

LANCELOT :

A giantess…

Did he take her down all by himself?

Was this the giant you saw die?

Percival.

PERCIVAL :

N…no…

LANCELOT :

So the situation’s much more complicated than we thought.

VIVIANE :

…He’s still alive.

Well, not quite.

He seems

stuck at the gates of the otherworld?

PERCIVAL :

Does that mean he’ll be okay?

VIVIANE :

I cannot say.

He seems to be in a deep coma, but…

…something else is going on here, and I cannot put my finger on it.

PERCIVAL :

We need to take him away.

He’s…

He’s my brother, he…

He needs help…

Help him,

please…

VIVIANE :

…It is not within my power to take him away.

Even if I could, he is too weak to bear the strain of non-healing magic.

All I can do

is keep him from deteriorating any further.

Only time will tell.

[ lancelot carries lamorak up to dry land ]

VIVIANE :

Stay with Lamorak.

It may be best for you to wait here.

LANCELOT :

We’ll take care of his situation when we return.

PERCIVAL :

Promise me…

Promise me you’ll come back and save him…

LANCELOT :

I promise.

The real question is

will I reach the others before it's too late?

ROUND TABLE TRIVIA

Depending on where the quest is supposed to take place, the journey can take longer than the quest itself.

NPC knight :

Good thing the landscapes are pretty.

Depending on the season, the state of the roads and their mounts’ stamina, a veteran traveler can travel up to forty kilometers a day, five days in a row.

It is of course essential to let the mounts rest : one can then take a couple of days to replenish their supplies, hunt, and get some rest of their own.

All of this is feasible in optimal conditions, but delays are common : wounds and illnesses for both horse and rider, missing supplies, weather conditions, an upcoming tourney clogging up the surrounding roads…

NPC knight :

Jeez, nearly a week behind schedule because of the rain. This country, I swear.
