MORDRED

…You asked to see me, uncle?

ARTHUR

Ah, yes.

Come in, please.

Are you enjoying the celebrations?

MORDRED

Yes, they’re, hm… They’re very nice.

ARTHUR

Are you afraid?

MORDRED

No, I’m…

I…

ARTHUR

…You know,

when I look through my window and watch my knights, I can see what kind of people they are.

I see charmers,

caring, loyal souls.

They don’t all or always get along…

…but they’re devoted to me.

And most of all, they’re devoted to the Round Table.

They know how important it is as a symbol of Britain’s continued prosperity.

But when I look at you…

I don’t know who you are.

I’ve come to this realization not as a reproach,

but with regrets.

…Percival helped me realize this.

I was so preoccupied with…

…everything.

So much that I let my bitterness and my fears guide my actions when it came to you.

I chose to put distance between us rather than face them head on.

I didn’t even realize you were suffering.

We share the same blood, Mordred.

It was difficult for me to acknowledge I did not treat you as one of my own.

So, I ask for your forgiveness.

MORDRED

…Is it true?

I thought…

I thought…

…all I had to do was prove myself, and then you’d finally notice me…

But you deliberately…

ARTHUR

…You’re upset, I can understand that.

MORDRED

I am.

But I’m relieved, too.

You’re…

…looking at me.

ARTHUR

I’d like to renew our bonds, Mordred.

Make amends, if circumstances will allow it.

MORDRED

What do you mean?

ARTHUR

I will knight you.

Of course, there are conditions.

Gawain will have to confirm you’ve shown yourself to be worthy of that honor on your next quest.

Do you understand?

MORDRED

Y-yes, uncle.

ARTHUR

Another thing.

You must understand what it means to be a knight of the Round Table. How important it is.

We are a symbol of peace, unity and justice.

We must preserve that symbol, and fight in its name. If you promise me you’ll keep this in mind…

…then I will be ready to make you a knight.

AGLOVALE

Dame Morgan.

I thought I might find you here.

MORGAN

Sir Aglovale, have you emerged from your slump to join the celebrations, unlikely as it is?

AGLOVALE

You don’t have a very festive impression of me, I see.

MORGAN

The impression I have of you is neither indecent nor flattering, if that’s what you’re worried about. But we both know this isn’t about your image, yes?

AGLOVALE

…I meant to apologize.

For forcing you to protect me…

…and for the loss you endured as a result.

MORGAN

[ sighs ]

Cut to the chase, Aglovale. I have no patience for men who come to me asking for favors.

AGLOVALE

It’s about Lamorak.

I need your talents as a healer.

…I know what my brother and I represent.

We represent Pellinore.

It must pain you, given what happened to your late husband.

Maybe you fear we’ll seek revenge against Gawain in our father’s name, like Mordred…

…since you could have hoped for the same against Pellinore while he still lived.

Yes, I cannot deny the aversion I hold towards Gawain now.

But you had your vengeance, whereas I can only promise you I’ve buried mine for good.

I can carry the burden of being Pellinore’s son, but Lamorak…

…My brother doesn’t deserve to die because of old grudges between our families.

MORGAN : …

If I asked you to beg, would you?

I’m only joking.

Unlike you, who’s treating all this with utmost seriousness.

I admire your determination, Aglovale. But…

…Pray, show Gawain some leniency. She made many sacrifices

in my defense and for the sake of my honor.

AGLOVALE

…?

MORGAN

…What’s happening over there?

PALAMEDES

GAWAIN

Go talk to him, Palamedes.

Staring at Percival won’t tell you anything else about Lamorak’s state.

PALAMEDES

Quit pressing the issue when I haven’t asked for your opinion, Gawain.

GAWAIN

It pains me to see you so miserable.

PALAMEDES

Percival’s the one looking miserable. This must be a terrible situation for him.

??

Go ask him to accompany you on a quest.

BRUNOR

That’ll take his mind off things.

Same goes for you, actually.

PALAMEDES :

…It’s⎯

GAWAIN

You can always go through Bedivere, if you really don’t want to talk to Aglovale.

[ palamedes stares at her. ]

…What?

I’m trying to help you, Palamedes.

BRUNOR

( Clumsily so. )

DINADAN

Brunor! My big brother! <3 <3 <3

BRUNOR

You! In what state are you coming back here?

DINADAN

I feel bad for Bors, he’s going to get here just a bit too late to enjoy all this. Good evening, ladies.

BRUNOR

Clearly you’re enjoying it.

DINADAN

As should you, my dear new knight of the Round Table.

How does it feel, huh?

BRUNOR

[ pragmatic ]

Oh, you know, it’s not like I grew a third hand in the middle of the night.

DINADAN

Shame, could’ve come in handy.

BRUNOR

You would’ve found some way to steal it from me, like you stole the rest of my stuff.

GAWAIN

Clearly, it’s a little brother thing.

Speaking of which, mine talks about you often, Brunor of Estrangore. You made quite the impression on him, it seems.

What did you tell him, exactly? Looks like it struck a chord with him.

BRUNOR

I told him he was doing a good job.

GAWAIN

(heh.)

I see…

PALAMEDES

[ jumping to her feet ] What…

Over there, next to Percival!

It’s…

PERCIVAL

La…

Lamorak?

ROUND TABLE TRIVIA

Regional dishes of the Round Table, part 1!

Wales

Bedivere

If there’s one thing you have to know about Welsh cuisine, it’s that there’s a lot of leeks involved. I was raised on leek soup, myself.

Lamorak

I’ve always liked caws pobi, it’s really simple! (melted cheese, baked with a slice of bread)

Percival

Pice back (little spiced biscuits) make for a great snack!

Aglovale

I really like bara lawr. (a gelatinous paste made from seaweed, meant to be spread over bread)

Lamorak

Bara lawr is disgusting.

Aglovale

I’m not having this conversation again.

Scotland

Gawain

Mordred has a sweet tooth, he really likes shortbread! (little dry biscuit made from leftover bread, with sugar added in)

As for me, I really enjoy cranachan. (dessert made from whipped cream, whiskey, honey, raspberry and oat flakes)

Corbenic

Galahad

I remember eating yorkshire puddings as starters sometimes, or as side dishes! (little pieces of bread made from milk, egg, flour and salt, usually eaten as starters with onion sauce)

Cornwall :

Tristan

My favorite dish is the stargazy pie! It’s a pretty name, isn’t it? (sardines, eggs and potatoes, covered with dough)

Iseult

I’m warning you, I’m not touching that thing with a ten-foot pole… Those heads are staring at me…

Tristan

But it’s very tasty!

Benwick

Lancelot

I’m more of a savory over sweet person, so I like galettes.

Bors

…And… and I like crepes, so the sweet kind.

[ classic britons! ]
