PERCIVAL :
( Sir Tristan didn’t accompany us to Camelot.
When we reached Britain,
he decided to head for Tintagel on his own, despite the others' many protests.
He claimed he would make for unpleasant company.
I think he was depressed.
It saddened me, too.
Our arrival in Camelot was eventful, but not the way we thought it would be. )
[ crowd cheering : sir gawain, sir gawain! arthur, arthur! ( he nods in thanks/greetings )
sir lancelot! lancelot! look over here! ]
DINADAN :
Kind of weird for a state of emergency, isn’t it?
BEDIVERE :
Yes, we’d best stay on our guard.
[ silence ]
PERCIVAL :
( Another Arthur?! )
GUINEVERE :
Oh, Arthur!
Thank goodness, you’re safe!
ARTHUR :
I-I should be the one surprised here!
PERCIVAL :
( Why am I the only one having a reaction to there being two Arthurs? )
ARTHUR :
What happened?
And, Merlin…
…What did we say about shapeshifting?
MERLIN :
I’m not sorry.
There’s nothing wrong with immersive storytelling.
ARTHUR :
So everything’s been sorted out, then…?
GUINEVERE :
Oh, you should have seen it! Brunor and Mordred held their own splendidly.
KAY :
Where are they, actually?
GUINEVERE :
Oh, they’re waiting in the guards’ quarters, just in case you might have gone through there.
KAY :
Well, then…
Some of us are going to get a surprise.
BRUNOR :
Yo, what’s up?
BEDIVERE :
What the fuck are the two of you doing here?
PERCIVAL :
( They explained what happened,
and how a common effort put an end to this terrible situation.
The hardest thing we had to do after we arrived
was bring Lamorak to Aglovale.
The look on his face stuck with me.
But he showed nothing but composure.
He put his arms around me and hugged me tight, very calmly.
I didn’t know how to react.
In the days that followed, Aglovale didn’t leave Lamorak’s side once,
and buried himself deep in work.
One evening, Sir Palamedes came by, but… )
PALAMEDES :
…
[ flees ]
PERCIVAL :
( I haven’t seen her since.
After a few days, Sir Brunor agreed to join the Round Table.
I got to attend a homage ceremony. )
BRUNOR :
I swear to be loyal to the Round Table,
to defend the peace and unity it brought,
to fight for human dignity, to stand against injustice,
and to offer my services and my life to Arthur Pendragon, King of Logres and all Britain.
ARTHUR :
I swear to treat you as my equal, to offer you shelter and prosperity,
and never to dishonor you.
May your glory be great,
and our alliance everlasting.
DINADAN :
HEY, PERCY!
Can you come help Mordred?
I still have a hard time carrying heavy things.
PERCIVAL :
Do your ribs still hurt, Dinadan?
DINADAN :
Yeah, but I’m feeling better!
Good thing I don’t get post-quest depression.
PERCIVAL :
Post-quest what?
DINADAN :
Oh, it’s pretty common to be somewhat depressed after a quest as emotionally intense as Mount Tombe. ( Not like Tristan gets, that said. )
It’ll get better, with Samhain starting tonight.
…Do you want to talk about what’s troubling you?
I mean, I assume it’s that, but⎯
PERCIVAL :
Say…
When will we be ready to go again?
DINADAN :
…
When we’re all rested, healed, and when our armors are repaired. It’ll probably take a while.
PERCIVAL :
[ sighs ]
Maybe I should’ve left with Sir Tristan…
DINADAN :
Oh, he’s not going to leave Tintagel anytime soon, if that’s what you’re thinking.
He really does need to rest. It’s pretty good that he can admit it at all this time. He’s come a long way since…
…since not too long ago, actually.
MORDRED :
Why is he like that?
If I understand correctly, he was gravely wounded because he refused to tell you about a smaller wound, wasn’t he?
Didn’t he put everyone in danger over something stupid?
I fail to understand what he means to achieve by pushing past his limits like that.
DINADAN :
…
Tristan has… a history.
It still affects the way he makes decisions now.
You don’t spare much thought for how to work in a team when you had to manage all alone for a good long while.
MORDRED :
Alone?
DINADAN :
Well, well, aren’t you curious.
I would’ve thought you’d be more preoccupied with other things,
like everything you have to tell Percy.
MORDRED :
WHAT?! What do you mean?!
DINADAN :
Oh, you know…
…catching up on lost time…
[ awkward. ]
PERCIVAL :
( Since we reunited, I haven’t managed to speak to him at all.
I would’ve liked to spend more time with him, but… )
PERCIVAL :
…
To be honest, I do have something to tell you. But I’d rather do it in private, and
there’s a lot of people around the castle these days.
DINADAN :
[sighs]
Everyone’s going to be gathered around the bonfires tonight.
The great tree in the courtyard will probably be a quiet spot.
PERCIVAL :
Very well.
Mordred, meet me there tonight, please.
MORDRED :
…Yes.
[ knock knock!! ]
?? :
I know you’re there, Lancelot.
Let me in.
Please.
GUINEVERE :
Good evening, Lancelot.
We need to talk.
ROUND TABLE TRIVIA
When a knight is made such by a liege lord, they become their vassal. However, they can also enter another liege’s service : that is when homage happens.
NPC :
It’s a ceremony meant to establish a contract of vassalage. It can be done by one king to another, or with a knight standing in for their king.
It can be useful to avoid sudden conflicts!
The vassal then enters the liege lord’s service, and the liege lord gives them privileges in return.
The different steps of the ceremony can vary, but it is common to hold hands, exchange items…
…or even kiss.
