PERCIVAL :
La…
Lamorak?!
You⎯
GALAHAD :
[ jumps to her feet ]
What are you⎯
PERCIVAL :
Lamorak, but…
Why…?
GALAHAD :
IT’S NOT HIM!
He’s not himself!
GET UP, PERCIVAL!
PERCIVAL :
But, he…
LAMORAK, NO!
GALAHAD :
Sir Lancelot…?
LANCELOT :
Stay back, I’ll handle this.
Stop it, Lamorak.
I don’t want to hurt you⎯
BEDIVERE :
LANCELOT!
What’s happening?
Why did he attack you?
LANCELOT :
I don’t know, he⎯
BEDIVERE :
…
Let’s take him back to his quarters.
[ lancelot drags lamorak off ]
BEDIVERE :
Kay, stay here and⎯
KAY :
Yeah, I’ll take care of everyone.
AGLOVALE :
What’s happening?
Why is he…?
[ lamorak stops struggling. ]
MORGAN :
What do you make of this?
MERLIN :
I’ve never seen it before. Not like this, that is.
But considering that…
Percival. What did Viviane say about the Grail?
PERCIVAL :
That it’s looking for a new guardian and…
…that it brings the dead back to life to protect it…?
MERLIN :
…Lamorak is between life and death right now. And tonight, he awoke when the veil between worlds was at its thinnest.
MORGAN :
You think the Grail’s manipulating him?
MERLIN :
Not exactly.
Unlike the other figures surrounding the Grail, he isn’t dead. So I think
that the Grail chose him to become its guardian.
It’s keeping him alive.
PERCIVAL :
But…
Dame Viviane said her magic was keeping him alive, I don’t understand…
MERLIN :
Viviane is keeping his body from deteriorating, but I believe it is indeed the Grail that keeps Lamorak from slipping from one world to the next.
It needs a living guardian, after all.
So the Grail probably saw an opportunity to slip into a mind that had already been weakened by its coma.
It makes for a more interesting vessel than someone in full command of their faculties.
AGLOVALE :
…
What must we do?
Can we still save him?
PERCIVAL :
( He’s so…
…calm… )
MERLIN :
Maybe. But the Grail needs to be found.
If we find it, maybe it can be bound to a new guardian…
…and perhaps everything will go back to the way it was.
BEDIVERE :
Alright.
Everyone’s armor will have to be ready to go, then.
I’ll give Arthur a heads up. The rest of you hurry and decide who’s going and who’s not.
LANCELOT :
I’ll go.
To see him in this state pains me.
I’ll do anything I can to help him. He deserves that much, at least.
AGLOVALE :
Thank you, Lancelot.
I’ll stay here and look after him.
MORGAN :
…I’ll help.
I’ll stay with you, and do everything in my power to care for him.
AGLOVALE :
Thank you, Dame Morgan.
MERLIN :
We’d better keep him tied up until the end of Samhain.
Sorry, Aglovale. With all those magical forces floating around,
he could get up again.
AGLOVALE :
I understand.
MERLIN :
The rest of you, get back outside and act like nothing happened.
It would be best not to escalate the situation.
[ cut to the dungeons ]
MORGAN :
Get up.
MAGE :
Am I finally going to see Guinevere?
[ she glances over her shoulder ]
…
…Oh, it’s just you.
MORGAN :
You don’t look very pleased to see me.
MAGE :
Should I be?
MORGAN :
It doesn’t matter.
There’s been a change of plans.
Our new target
is the Grail.
ROUND TABLE TRIVIA
Regional dishes of the Round Table, part 2!
Estrangore :
Dinadan :
Eccles cakes are really good. (little cakes stuffed with berries)
Brunor :
…Crottin de Chavignol. (a goat cheese from Sancerre, in France).
Dinadan :
We said local dishes, Brunor⎯
Brunor :
Hey, our dad was a Frenchman, and he made good cheese.
Dinadan :
I can still hear him bitching about how no one in this country knows how to make real cheese.
Brunor :
Was he wrong, though?
Logres and Escavalon :
Arthur :
I have a soft spot for carrot pudding, lovingly baked by my brother. <3 (carrot cake apparently comes from medieval English cuisine, as a kind of pudding.)
Kay :
It takes forever to make, you really do have luxurious tastes. ( It’s apparently made by highlighting carrots’ natural sweetness by cooking them for a long time. )
As for me, I’d say Canterbury pie. That’s a dish from home all right. Oh, and Banbury cakes. (apple and lemon pie + little berry-stuffed cakes)
Dinadan :
Wait, they look a lot like Eccles cakes.
[ culinary confrontation ]
Cameliard :
Guinevere :
Cameliard is famous for its cheeses, and I love blue cheese. When I still lived in Nottingham, we ate pies made from cheese and beef…
[ Guinevere went on a gustative nostalgia trip. ]
Kay :
I must keep her tastebuds happy!
[ Kay’s ego as a cook was wounded. ]
Babylon :
Palamedes :
My mother still makes fatayer for me sometimes…whenever I visit. (savory pastries stuffed with meat)
Them old folks :
Merlin :
Oof, that was a long time ago. We used milk and honey a lot, and made dishes like lentils with milk and dandelions…or barley apple cakes.
We also had meat, that said. But I’m a vegetarian, and only eat meat when druidic rituals demand it.
Bread, butter and cheese never get old. ( On top of vegetables and the results of my gathering, of course. )
[ A simple being, even though cheese and butter were much saltier in the olden times than they are now. ]
