[The Association Jeune-France had commissioned this work in spring 1941 for a radio broadcast during a "Semaine de Jeanne d'Arc," 5-12 May 1941. (The Fête Jeanne d'Arc—commemorating the deliverance of Orléans from the English in May 1429—is celebrated in France on the second Sunday of May, in that year 11 May 1941.) The broadcast results, not involving Münch or the Soc., were deemed unsatisfactory by the press. The 1942 revival was Münch's effort to redeem the work of young composers in whom he believed.]

GRAND FESTIVAL MOZART
This commemorated the 150th anniversary of Mozart's death (5 December 1791) and was called for by the occupying authorities, following the model established for Vienna (where Goebbels gave a major address). The Société des Concerts played for three of the events (nos. 1, 6, 9), called Concerts de Collaboration in the minutes; see pp. 452-53. There were a number of "unofficial" Mozart concerts as well; all are listed in L'Information musicale no. 48, 28 November 1941, pp. 391-401.
